Log Cabin Chicklets

Announcing the second workshop in my online workshop series, Soul Food Take-Out. This one is called Log Cabin Chicklets. In this one lesson workshop, we'll create these a.dor.a.ble little pin cushion-y, bean bag-gy chickens from tiny log cabin quilt blocks. Too.much.fun!

Treasure Nests at Wild at Heart Studios
Located on beautiful San Juan Island, we offer a delightful get-away from the everyday world. Although the specific location is still to be determined, this workshop will be held in a lovely resort setting allowing you to stay at the same place you'll be attending class. Many of the venues offer spa services, in addition to other amenities. Please check out the “Links” page to learn more about our venues and make reservations for your retreat.
Class description: I call it nesting; that urge to surround myself with all of my little treasures and all the things I love.
These sweet little nests are made from scraps of your favorite fabrics, bits of yarn, and then embellished with your wonderful tiny treasures. After that, use them to store your crafty doo-dads, hold your jewelry, or sit on your coffee table with a stack of love notes and colorful postcards. Treasure Nests are the perfect little happy place to showcase your bits and baubles and to stash your goodies.
Each student will complete one Treasure Nest, brightly colored and embellished with lots of your fun little treasures.

In Stitches online class
I love how the nostalgic crafts have been given new life. Especially embroidery, applique, and quilting. My favorite thing is to curl up in my favorite chair with a bit of hand-stitching. Looking for a new project, or want to dip your toes into the stitch-y pool? In Stitches II is for you!
Whenever I start a new project, I do a bit of doodling. In this class you'll have lots of time for just playing around. The entire first lesson is designed to warm up your drawing fingers, and to get your creative juices flowing. You'll also begin thinking about the palette you want to use for your stitched piece.
With the overwhelming number of colored threads and flosses out there, I have found it's a good idea to start with an idea of 3-5 basic colors to use in a sampler, and go from there. I'll show you how I do that. Later on, we'll get into the stitchery and applique that pull our design together, finishing up with some final embellishment details. This class is a basic embroidery class, perfect for a beginner or anyone who wishes to improve their embroidery skills.
Lesson One: Doodling up Your Design
We'll do some warm-up exercises by doodling and drawing simple shapes and themes to incorporate into our larger stitched piece. Or, you can use the template of my project, in its entirety, or by just using bits of it to incorporate into your design.
Lesson Two: Stitch-by-Stitch
Basic embroidery stitches, a bit of color theory, and basic applique techniques.
Lesson Three: Adding Layers
Why stop at stitchery, when there are vintage laces, fabric scraps, and buttons to add to our stitched pieces.
